PROBLEM:

Wire rope tends to spool toward the center of the winch drum.

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

  • The distance between the winch and the first sheave is too short

Wire rope is not spooling evenly across the drum barrel.

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

  • The wire rope lay is not correct
  • The load on the winch is to light
  • First layer of wire rope installed on winch drum is not correct

PROBLEM:

Wire rope climbing one flange.

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

  • Hoist is not mounted perpendicular with the first sheave
  • Center of the winch drum not aligned with the first sheave
  • The winch drum flanges are not straight

PROBLEM:

Wire rope climbs both flanges.

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

  • The distance between the winch drum and the first sheave is too great.

Wire rope knifes into lower layers

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

  • Lower wire rope layers are not installed properly due to light load
  • If grooved winch drum, the groove and wire rope size are mismatched
